Alley Military Moot Court Competition this past weekend.&nbsp; This new competition was hosted by the United States Army Judge Advocate General\u2019s Corps at the United States Army Advocacy Center at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The competition involved two issues\u2014the obedience to orders defense and Article 31(b) of the UCMJ (which is similar to <em>Miranda<\/em> rights).\u00a0 The judging panels were amazing&#8211;Slade and Eddie argued in front of JAG officers, United States Army Court of Criminal Appeals judges, and United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces judges, as well as many trial court judges.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team received so many positive compliments about how posed, prepared, and professional they were; how well they understood army \u201clingo\u201d; and how well they knew the law and the facts. They were walking encyclopedias when it came to the standard of review.\u00a0 They made it to the quarterfinals before losing a very close round to Seton Hall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations, Slade and Eddie!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Please join me in congratulating Slade Brown and Eddie Hong, who participated in the inaugural Brigadier General Wayne E.
