One in Five Law Students Has a Disability &#8211; (LSSSE 2025)"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-10bcd0fcf530556b094aa6d535a76e0f\">The 2025 report released last week by Law School Survey of Student Engagement (LSSSE) is its first comprehensive look at disability among law students.&nbsp; LSSSE has determined that one in five law students has a disability.&nbsp; The<mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\"> <\/mark><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/disability-and-health\/articles-documents\/disability-impacts-all-of-us-infographic.html\"><strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-green-cyan-color\">CDC reports<\/mark><\/strong><\/a><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-vivid-red-color\">&nbsp;<\/mark>that one in four adults in the United States has a disability and that number will only increase as the population ages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At <strong>Stetson Law<\/strong>, Accessibility Resources (AR) supports students with disabilities, students who require temporary accommodations (emergency or disability-related needs that are expected to resolve within six months), and students where English is their Second Language (ESL).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the <strong>2024-2025<\/strong>&nbsp;academic year, <strong>1,091 <\/strong>students were enrolled at Stetson Law, and <strong>254<\/strong> students were registered with Accessibility Resources:  <strong>23.3%<\/strong> of the student body.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the <strong>254<\/strong> students registered with AR, <strong>217 <\/strong>were students with disabilities defined under the ADA; <strong>19.9%<\/strong> of the student body, <strong>15<\/strong> students received temporary accommodation; <strong>1.4%<\/strong> student body, and <strong>14<\/strong> students received ESL testing modifications; Attend programming events offered by Accessibility Resources and the Disability Allied Law Students Association (DALSA).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"2\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Promote awareness and inclusion of this underrepresented community:<\/strong>&nbsp;Ensure your events, materials, and messaging are accessible to all members of our community.&nbsp; Your message is important; make sure it reaches everyone.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"3\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Minimize stigma surrounding disability status and accommodations:<\/strong>&nbsp;Lead with an open mind, not assumptions.&nbsp; Every student receiving accommodations has a medical condition that has been verified by a qualified medical provider and the accommodations process at Stetson Law.&nbsp; However, not all disabilities are visible.
