Barnes will be recognized among the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationsbestadvocates.com\/\">Nation\u2019s Best Advocates<\/a> during the association\u2019s 88th annual convention on July 27, in Miami.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_12914\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-12914\" style=\"width: 158px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Monica-Barnes-Headshot-2013.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-12914 \" alt=\"Monica Barnes.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Monica-Barnes-Headshot-2013-225x300.jpg\" width=\"158\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-12914\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Assistant City Attorney Monica Barnes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Barnes is an assistant city attorney for the City of Miami Gardens, Fla. She was recognized in 2008 by the <i>Miami Herald<\/i> as one of the \u201c10 Rising Voices in the South Florida Black Community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This honor recognizes young African-American lawyers age 40 and younger who have achieved professional and philanthropic prominence and distinction. Honorees include solo practitioners, government lawyers, judges, academicians, corporate counsels, elected officials and other lawyers chosen for their achievement, innovation, vision, leadership and community involvement.<\/p>\n<p>The National Bar Association, founded in 1925, is the nation&#8217;s oldest and largest national network of predominantly African American attorneys and judges. It represents approximately 44,000 lawyers, judges, law professors and law students and has more than 80 affiliate chapters throughout the U.S. and around the world.<\/p>\n<p>IMPACT is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to engage and build a network of young professionals of color to foster civic engagement, increase knowledge of the political and legislative processes, and enhance economic empowerment opportunities.<i> <\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stetson University College of Law 2003 graduate Monica D.
