Photo courtesy Kayli Keough.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Students camped and hiked through Big Cypress National Preserve in the Western Everglades.<\/p>\n<p>The trip coincided with World Wetlands Day, held annually on Feb. 2, which celebrates the signing of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/faculty\/gardner-royal-c\/\" target=\"_blank\">Professor Gardner<\/a>, who directs Stetson&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/international\/biodiversity\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Institute for Biodiversity Law &amp; Policy<\/a>, is chair of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ramsar.org\/cda\/ramsar\/display\/main\/main.jsp?zn=ramsar&amp;cp=1-36-71-74_4000_0\" target=\"_blank\">Ramsar Scientific and Technical Review Panel. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>In 2010, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2010\/02\/09\/international-cooperation-protecting-wetlands\/\" target=\"_blank\">Stetson University College of Law became the first law school in the world to sign a memorandum of cooperation with the Ramsar Secretariat<\/a>, to assist the international group in protecting wetlands. Stetson Law alumni and the National Audubon Society worked together on the application for the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary in the Naples area to be designated as a Wetland of International Importance in 2009.
