On Oct. 21, students in Professor Royal Gardner\u2019s wetland seminar met with Thomas Ries of the Ecosphere Restoration Institute for a tour of the flowing natural spring only blocks from downtown Tampa\u2019s urban skyline. Stetson alumnus Andrew Zodrow &#8217;95 of the Hillsborough County Environmental Protection Commission spoke about permitting issues.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16097\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16097\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_0295-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-16097\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/IMG_0295-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Thomas Ries talks with Stetson Law students at the Ulele Spring in Tampa.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16097\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Thomas Ries talks with Stetson Law students at the Ulele Spring in Tampa. Photo by 3L Robert Laur.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Over the past year, the city has worked to restore the Ulele Spring, once hidden underground, and the Water Works Park behind Stetson University&#8217;s Tampa Law Center.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Gardner&#8217;s law students learned how the exposed Ulele Spring can provide a refuge for manatee and fish along the Hillsborough River. Gardner directs the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/international\/biodiversity\/\" target=\"_blank\">Institute for Biodiversity Law and Policy<\/a> at Stetson and received the 2006 National Wetlands Award for Education and Outreach from the Environmental Law Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Ries is the 2013 recipient of E.L.I.&#8217;s National Wetlands Award for Conservation and Restoration.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about the Institute and Stetson&#8217;s J.D.
