{"id":16513,"date":"2014-12-22T14:28:09","date_gmt":"2014-12-22T19:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/?p=16513"},"modified":"2014-12-22T14:28:09","modified_gmt":"2014-12-22T19:28:09","slug":"stetson-among-nations-best-law-schools-pro-bono","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2014\/12\/22\/stetson-among-nations-best-law-schools-pro-bono\/","title":{"rendered":"Stetson among nation\u2019s best law schools for pro bono"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\">Stetson University College of Law<\/a> has been ranked seventh in the nation among the<a href=\"http:\/\/lawschools.superlawyers.com\/services-view\/type_of_law_to_practice\"> 2014 <em>Super Lawyers<\/em> Top 10 Law Schools for Pro Bono Graduation Requirements. <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/135635666.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-16515\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/135635666-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"135635666\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stetson Law students donated 31,719 pro bono service hours to more than 400 organizations in the 2013-2014 academic year. Stetson is one of the first law schools in the U.S. to require pro bono service of its students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStetson Law led the way in promoting the pro bono requirement in law schools,\u201d said Dean and Professor of Law Christopher Pietruszkiewicz. \u201cToday, we remain dedicated to instilling a passion for public service in our students and graduates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All J.D. students at Stetson are required to complete a minimum of 60 hours of pro bono service and the law school offers a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/admissions\/financial\/scholarships.php\">public service scholarship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Stetson students serve the community in a variety of pro-bono roles, as court-appointed advocates for children in the dependency system, as Spanish-speaking translators assisting with immigration cases, as researchers investigating consumer finance abuse and workplace\/school religious discrimination or harassment, and as advocates working in a variety of community law programs.
