Fitzgerald and\u00a0wife Susan received the Golden Retriever Rescue of Mid-Florida\u2019s Top Dog Award at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.grrmf.org\/reunion\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\">GRRMF annual \u201cRescue Reunion\u201d<\/a> on Feb. 21.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_16976\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-16976\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/library_group.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-16976 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/library_group-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"library_group\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-16976\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Professor Peter Fitzgerald and wife Susan visit the Dolly &amp; Homer Hand Law Library at Stetson with their therapy dogs.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Fitzgeralds received the award for donating numerous hours to GRRMF in 2014, including transporting and fostering rescued animals, and assisting with fundraising activities\u00a0including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2014\/04\/14\/stetson-hosts-best-selling-mystery-novel-author-animal-rescue-advocate-david-rosenfelt\/#.VO-NdvnF_TQ\" target=\"_blank\">bringing novelist and animal rescue advocate David Rosenfelt to Stetson\u2019s Gulfport campus<\/a> to speak at an event co-sponsored by Stetson\u2019s student chapter of the Animal Legal Defense Fund.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Fitzgerald is\u00a0a specialist in domestic and international\u00a0commercial law and policy, with an additional interest in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2011\/09\/26\/crossing-borders-in-animal-law\/\">animal law<\/a>.\u00a0Professor Fitzgerald&#8217;s latest\u00a0book is\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cap-press.com\/books\/isbn\/9781594607707\/\">International Issues in Animal Law<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The Fitzgeralds helped spearhead a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nationaljurist.com\/content\/stress-dogs-stetson-fordham-students-protest-contraception-policy\" target=\"_blank\">therapy dog program to help Stetson Law students reduce stress<\/a> during exam time.<\/p>\n<p>Watch a video interview with Professor Fitzgerald discussing the field of animal law and his work in the area:<br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/player.vimeo.com\/video\/29359957\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Professor of Law Peter L.
