{"id":17671,"date":"2015-07-01T11:05:58","date_gmt":"2015-07-01T15:05:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/?p=17671"},"modified":"2015-08-14T11:15:29","modified_gmt":"2015-08-14T15:15:29","slug":"four-awards-honor-graduates-significant-service","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2015\/07\/01\/four-awards-honor-graduates-significant-service\/","title":{"rendered":"Four awards honor graduates&#8217; significant service"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stetson University College of Law presented its annual awards to graduates and friends of the college in conjunction with the Florida Bar Annual Convention June 24-27 in Boca Raton.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SLIDESHOW:<\/strong><br \/>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" style=\"background-color: #555555;\" src=\"http:\/\/stetsonlaw.zenfolio.com\/zf\/core\/embedgallery.aspx?p=12c32b5f0ff405211CCCCCC03e111111F5F5F5DDDDDD555555CCCCCC.2\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Scott Bruin<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>B.A. &#8217;75<\/strong> was presented the Distinguished Service Award in recognition of significant, meritorious and continuing contributions that benefit the college. Bruin is the executive\u00a0managing partner of CapTrust Financial Advisors in Tampa. He has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services industry.\u00a0A graduate of Stetson University, Bruin\u00a0is currently a member of the Stetson University Board of Trustees and the current president of the Stetson University Alumni Board of Directors. In his role as president, Bruin\u00a0has been a vocal and active leader in promoting the College of Law and has assisted the college in numerous\u00a0ways.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Honorable Anthony E. Porcelli \u00a0B.A. &#8217;93, J.D. &#8217;98\u00a0<\/strong>received the Distinguished Alumnus Award,\u00a0given to a graduate who is recognized as being outstanding in their chosen profession and who has brought honor to themselves and to the College of Law.\u00a0Judge Porcelli graduated with\u00a0both a bachelor&#8217;s and law degree\u00a0from Stetson University. A former federal prosecutor, Porcelli was appointed in 2009 and\u00a0currently serves as a U.S. magistrate judge in the Middle District of Florida. Judge Porcelli also serves as an adjunct faculty member at the College of Law.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Jason P. Stearns J.D. &#8217;08\u00a0<\/strong>received the\u00a0Outstanding Alumni Representative Award, presented in recognition of dedication and service to\u00a0the Stetson Lawyers Alumni Association through local involvement and for encouraging other alumni involvement in local activities of the Stetson Lawyers Alumni Association and the College of Law.<\/p>\n<p>Since graduating with his law degree from Stetson seven years ago, Stearns\u00a0has remained active with the college in a variety of ways. An associate with Phelps Dunbar LLP in Tampa, Stearns coaches Stetson&#8217;s award-winning advocacy teams and serves as a member of the Stetson Lawyers Alumni Association. While at Stetson, Stearns was active as a member of both the <em>Law Review<\/em> and Moot Court.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bernard J. McCabe Jr. B.A. &#8217;69, J.D. &#8217;72\u00a0<\/strong>received the\u00a0Ben C. Willard Award,<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>presented to an alumnus whose\u00a0humanitarian achievements have brought distinction to themselves and to the College of Law and who has expended extra effort to prevail for the benefit of the citizens of Florida.<\/p>\n<p>McCabe has served as\u00a0the state attorney for Florida\u2019s Sixth Judicial Circuit since 1992, and has brought great distinction to the College of Law. McCabe\u00a0has been a long-time member of the College of Law\u2019s Board of Overseers\u00a0and also serves as\u00a0an adjunct faculty member.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Greg Coleman B.B.A. &#8217;85, J.D. &#8217;89<\/strong>, president of the Florida Bar, presented the award for the <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2015\/03\/30\/stetson-law-students-win-florida-bar-youtube-contest\/#.VZP8U_nBzRY\">2015 Law Student Professionalism YouTube Contest Award<\/a> to Stetson Law students Elizabeth Harbaugh, Patrick Iyampillai and Daniel Kavanaugh.
