Photo by SeanCarlo Lopez.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>On Oct. 14, a panel <span style=\"color: #000000;\">at Stetson Law presented on racial disparity and the law.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In April, a\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/www.tampabay.com\/news\/publicsafety\/how-riding-your-bike-can-land-you-in-trouble-with-the-cops---if-youre-black\/2225966\"><i>Tampa Bay Times<\/i><\/a> story<i>\u00a0<\/i>that received public outrage and national attention\u00a0revealed that Tampa, Florida, police were disproportionately issuing tickets to people riding bicycles in poor, black neighborhoods.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday evening\u00a0on Stetson&#8217;s Gulfport campus,\u00a0members of the CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) organization, Legislative and Government Affairs Director Laila Abdelaziz, Civil Rights Director Thania Clevenger and attorney Jamie Klapholz discussed how laws are applied to people of differing races in the U.S.<\/p>\n<p>Wm. Reece Smith Jr. Distinguished Professor of Law Judith Scully moderated the discussion.<\/p>\n<p>The panel at Stetson was sponsored by the Stetson Law Dream Defenders, The Pillars, the Black Law Students Association, the Social Justice Advocacy program and the Wm.
