Photo by Marissa Marchena.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Students Marissa Marchena and Joey Nemeh were recently selected for the Rich Nenezian and Jim Jones Memorial Scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The scholarship\u2019s namesakes Nenezian and Jones\u00a0are both alumni from the Stetson University College of Law class of 1984.<\/p>\n<p>Both alumni died young in their 40s, but their classmates, friends and family memorialized Nenezian and Jones with a scholarship celebrating their love of life, laughter, and sports. Stetson law students selected for the scholarship\u00a0demonstrate a passion for balancing\u00a0the rigors of academic work\u00a0with extracurricular activities and intramural sports.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19333\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19333\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1420_softball-group.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-19333\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/IMG_1420_softball-group-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Students and alumni played softball on the Gulfport campus.\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19333\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students and alumni played softball\u00a0at Bear Creek Park in\u00a0St. Petersburg\u00a0to celebrate the scholarship.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Scholarship recipients Marchena and Nemeh celebrated with a banquet and softball game with alumni, the Nenezian and Jones family and friends on Jan. 23.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We played 12 innings because everyone was having such a great time,&#8221; Marchena said.<\/p>\n<p>Marchena said that she\u00a0loves watching college football and baseball, plays softball and volleyball, and enjoys horseback riding.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I love spending time with family and friends outdoors,&#8221; said Marchena. &#8220;I graduate in 2017 and my dream would be to work in college athletics.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Nemeh said that he is an avid\u00a0Chicago sports fan whose favorite sports to watch are basketball, football, baseball and hockey. He said that he enjoys participating in basketball and softball.<\/p>\n<p>Nemeh, who graduates in May, said he would like to work with the State Attorney&#8217;s Office.<\/p>\n<p>1984 Stetson law school graduate Pete Cooley organized the event.
