Alumna Jennifer Anderson J.D. ’02\u00a0was among 21 lawyers who received a Florida Bar Pro Bono Award during an awards ceremony on Jan. 28 at the Florida Supreme Court. 1982 Stetson Law graduate and U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Catherine Peek McEwen\u00a0was also\u00a0honored at the Florida Supreme Court as the first recipient of the Chief Justice\u2019s Distinguished Federal Judicial Service Award.<\/p>\n

Anderson, who was recognized in the Seventh Judicial Circuit\u00a0for\u00a0working on behalf of poor and indigent clients, is an attorney with AndersonGlenn LLP in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida.<\/p>\n

She represents children who have been abused or neglected.\u00a0Anderson dedicated hundreds of hours to the case of a\u00a0child who was abused by her father. Today, with Anderson’s help, that child has\u00a0grown into a talented musician at a school for the arts in Jacksonville, Florida.<\/p>\n

The Florida Bar President’s Pro Bono Service Awards were established in 1981 to encourage lawyers to volunteer free legal services to the poor by recognizing lawyers who make public service commitments.<\/p>\n

The awards recognize pro bono service in each of Florida’s 20\u00a0judicial circuits as well as service by a Florida Bar member practicing outside the state.<\/p>\n

The Florida Supreme Court ceremony also recognized the winners of the Tobias Simon Pro Bono Award, as well as awards in the categories of Distinguished Judicial Service, Distinguished Federal Judicial Service, Law Firm Commendation, Voluntary Bar Association and Young Lawyers Division.<\/p>\n

According to a news release from the Florida Bar<\/a>, in the most recent 12 months reported, Florida lawyers dedicated more than 1.7 million hours of pro bono service to people in need.
