{"id":19471,"date":"2016-02-18T16:22:55","date_gmt":"2016-02-18T21:22:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/?p=19471"},"modified":"2016-02-18T16:22:55","modified_gmt":"2016-02-18T21:22:55","slug":"csi-training-for-lawyers-starting-in-march-stetson-university-of-tennessee-develop-free-webinars-on-forensic-science","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2016\/02\/18\/csi-training-for-lawyers-starting-in-march-stetson-university-of-tennessee-develop-free-webinars-on-forensic-science\/","title":{"rendered":"Free CLE webinar on Crime Scene Essentials launches in March"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Stetson University College of Law\u2019s National Clearinghouse for Science, Technology and the Law has partnered with the Law Enforcement Innovation Center at the University of Tennessee\u2019s Institute for Public Service to launch a new webinar series as part of the \u201cCapital Litigation Initiative: Crime Scene to Courtroom Forensics Training.\u201d Attendees who complete the series will be eligible for free CLE credits.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/testtube2_WEB.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-19560\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/testtube2_WEB-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The first in a series of eight webinars, \u201cCrime Scene Essentials,\u201d launches on March 2, and covers identifying, documenting, processing, preserving and collecting of evidence.<\/p>\n<p>The eight webinars, funded by the US Department of Justice\u2019s Bureau of Justice Assistance\u2019s Capital Case Litigation Initiative, are designed for prosecutors and defense attorneys working on capital cases and will offer step-by-step forensic science training from evaluating the crime scene to defending or prosecuting death penalty cases in court.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an era in which the Supreme Court has scrutinized the death penalty, this course will educate lawyers about how forensic science plays a crucial role in the most serious of crimes,\u201d said Stetson Professor of Law Carol Henderson, the course leader.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Henderson, recognized as an international authority on forensic science and law, co-chairs the Life &amp; Physical Sciences Division of the American Bar Association&#8217;s Science &amp; Technology Law Section and is the former president of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences.
