This is the second year in a row that a Stetson student\u00a0has won the best oralist award in this prestigious national championship.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19863\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19863\" style=\"width: 542px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Weekend-Trial-Champs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-19863\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Weekend-Trial-Champs.jpg\" alt=\"(L-R): Nathan Bruemmer, Dan Kavanaugh, Silvia Amador and Kishantevia Carson.\" width=\"542\" height=\"406\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Weekend-Trial-Champs.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Weekend-Trial-Champs-500x375.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 542px) 100vw, 542px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19863\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">(L-R): Nathan Bruemmer, Dan Kavanaugh, Silvia Amador and Kishantevia Carson.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Stetson\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/academics\/advocacy\/moot\/\">moot court<\/a>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2016\/03\/08\/stetson-advances-to-the-national-finals-of-the-aba-national-appellate-advocacy-competition-and-wins-best-oralist-at-philip-c-jessup-international-law-moot-court-competition\/\">teams competed over the weekend of March 4-6 to win a regional tournament of the\u00a0American Bar Association\u00a0National Appellate Advocacy Competition and win the Best Oralist Award at the South Regional of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition<\/a>. The team of Darnesha Carter, Evan Dix and Jessica Ford was named one of the four co-champions at the regional round of the ABA National Appellate Advocacy Competition, earning an invitation to the national finals in April (where the team members were semifinalists).\u00a0At the South Regional of the Jessup competition, students Lauren Eliopoulos, Anna Kirkpatrick, Nicole Santamaria,\u00a0Chloe Wells and Julius Matusewicz advanced\u00a0to the semifinals. For\u00a0the first time in Stetson history, a Stetson advocate\u2014Eliopoulos\u2014won the Best Oralist Award.<\/p>\n<p>Two of Stetson\u2019s trial teams brought home multiple awards March 17-20. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2016\/03\/22\/stetsons-teams-win-national-ethics-trial-competition-three-awards-aba-competition\/\">team of Silvia Amador, Nathan Bruemmer, Kishantevia Carson, and Dan Kavanaugh won the National Ethics Trial Competition <\/a>at the University of the Pacific McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento, California. The team also won the Most Professional Team Award and Kavanaugh won the Best Advocate, Final Round Award.<\/p>\n<p>Another Stetson trial team of Alexa Cline, Courtney Olivier, Chantay Perry, and Alexis Petrosino advanced to the semifinals and won three individual awards at the American Bar Association National Criminal Justice Trial Competition on March 17-19 in Chicago, Illinois. Petrosino won the Best Opening Statement Award and the Best Direct Examination Award and Olivier won the Best Closing Argument Award.<\/p>\n<p>Stetson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2016\/03\/28\/stetsons-vis-team-wins-multiple-awards-worldwide-competition-vienna-austria\/\">Vis International Arbitration Moot team, including Jonathan Diamond, Sadiya Hashem, Leon Innerkofler, Taylor Ryan, Brien Squires and Kaelyn Steinkraus won two awards at the 23rd Annual Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot in Vienna, Austria<\/a>, March 18-24.\u00a0 Stetson won two Honorable Mention Awards\u2014the team won one for the Respondent\u2019s Memorandum and Ryan won one as a Best Oralist. Ryan was in the top 50 of close to 2,000 oralists. Only six of 49 U.S. teams advanced to the top 32 teams, which included Stetson. There were a total of 311 teams competing from 47 countries. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2016\/02\/29\/stetson-team-heads-to-international-competition-after-miami-win\/\">team placed first in the pre-moot in Miami, Florida<\/a>, on Feb. 27.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_19902\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-19902\" style=\"width: 603px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_5475_VIS-3team-in-Vienna.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-19902\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_5475_VIS-3team-in-Vienna.jpg\" alt=\"Stetson's Vis team took home multiple awards in Vienna.\" width=\"603\" height=\"339\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_5475_VIS-3team-in-Vienna.jpg 1328w, https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_5475_VIS-3team-in-Vienna-500x281.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_5475_VIS-3team-in-Vienna-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/IMG_5475_VIS-3team-in-Vienna-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 603px) 100vw, 603px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-19902\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stetson&#8217;s Vis team took home multiple awards in Vienna.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2016\/04\/04\/first-place-team-stetson-wins-dean-jerome-price-memorial-evidence-moot-court-competition\/\">Stetson moot court team won the 31st Annual Dean Jerome Prince Memorial Evidence Moot Court Competition on April 2<\/a> at Brooklyn Law School in New York. The team of Brittany Cover, Kristina Hartman, and Jeremy Rill won rounds against teams from the University of Florida, Wayne State, Michigan State, Louisiana State, Georgetown and the University of Tennessee.\u00a0Stetson\u2019s team also won the award for the Best Brief, and Rill was named Best Oralist, Final Round. Thirty-six teams participated in the competition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce again our students have proved that they have developed the practical skills they will need to be attorneys,\u201d said Professor of Legal Skills and Associate Director of the Center for Excellence in Advocacy Brooke Bowman, moot court advisor at Stetson. \u201cWe are proud of our students and Stetson\u2019s continued dedication to preparing our students to be top-notch advocates.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stetson\u2019s trial advocacy program is nationally ranked No.1 in the nation by U.S. News &amp; World Report.
