Gardner, director of Stetson\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/international\/biodiversity\/\">Institute<\/a>\u00a0and an internationally recognized expert in wetland law and policy.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21062\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21062\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-05-26-at-4.12.05-PM-Roy-Gardner.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21062\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Screen-Shot-2016-05-26-at-4.12.05-PM-Roy-Gardner-300x193.png\" alt=\"Stetson's biodiversity institute director Royal Gardner visited the Okavango Delta, Botswana in May.\" width=\"300\" height=\"193\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21062\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stetson&#8217;s biodiversity institute director Royal Gardner visited the wetlands of the Okavango Delta in Botswana, Africa, in May.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Every year, the ABA selects one organization to receive the Distinguished Achievement in Environmental Law and Policy\u00a0Award. Professor Gardner accepted the award on behalf of the biodiversity institute\u00a0at the ABA Annual Meeting in San Francisco on Aug. 7.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A special committee of the ABA\u2019s Section of Environment, Energy, and Resources selected Stetson\u2019s Institute based on its demonstrated leadership in improving the substance, process, and understanding of environmental issues.<\/p>\n<p>The Institute\u2019s upcoming programs include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On Aug. 26-28, the Institute will offer a special one-credit, three-day course on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/announcements\/special-sea-turtle-course-at-stetson-apply-for-a-scholarship\/\">Sea Turtle Law and Policy<\/a> for law and other graduate students pursuing degrees in marine science, environmental science, or environmental policy. The Sea Turtle Grants Program has provided a grant that funds scholarships for this course.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In the fall, the Institute will continue its popular public Foreman Biodiversity Lecture Series with three presentations by conservation, legal and scientific experts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On Nov. 3, Stetson will collaborate with the Environmental Law Institute to sponsor the fourth annual ELI-Stetson Wetlands Workshop.\n<p><figure id=\"attachment_21065\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21065\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ABA-AWard.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21065\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/ABA-AWard-300x294.jpg\" alt=\"Stetson received this year's Distinguished Achievement Award in Environmental Law and Policy.\" width=\"300\" height=\"294\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21065\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stetson received this year&#8217;s Distinguished Achievement Award in Environmental Law and Policy.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In January of 2017, Stetson will co-sponsor the 17th International Wildlife Law Conference.
