Photo by Alan Brock.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Alan Gura, lead plaintiff\u2019s counsel in the landmark 2008 Supreme Court decision <em>District of Columbia\u00a0v. Heller<\/em>, spoke on Oct. 27 at Stetson University College of Law in Gulfport.<\/p>\n<p>Gura spoke about how subsequent case law has evolved from\u00a0the <em>Heller<\/em>\u00a0decision, in which the Court examined the meaning of the Second Amendment. In <em>Heller<\/em>, the Supreme Court heard Second Amendment challenges to Washington, D.C.\u2019s longstanding ban on handgun possession and requirement that firearms in the home be stored unloaded and disassembled or bound by a locking device. \u00a0Gura also speculated on the\u00a0impact of the election cycle on the Second Amendment.<\/p>\n<p>The Federalist Society and Second Amendment Society co-sponsored the event \u201cAlan Gura: The Second Amendment and the Right to Bear Arms.&#8221; Approximately 60 students and faculty members attended the lecture.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_21784\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-21784\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_5168.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21784\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/IMG_5168-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Students and faculty gathered to hear Alan Gura discuss the landmark 2008 Heller case.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-21784\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Students and faculty gathered to hear Alan Gura discuss the landmark 2008 Heller case.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alan Gura, lead plaintiff\u2019s counsel in the landmark 2008 Supreme Court decision District of Columbia\u00a0v.
