{"id":241,"date":"2006-03-07T15:22:11","date_gmt":"2006-03-07T20:22:11","guid":{"rendered":""},"modified":"2024-03-04T10:56:27","modified_gmt":"2024-03-04T15:56:27","slug":"stetson-law-presents-free-seminars-in-ocala-to-help-protect-elder-consumers-from-scams-and-fraud","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2006\/03\/07\/stetson-law-presents-free-seminars-in-ocala-to-help-protect-elder-consumers-from-scams-and-fraud\/","title":{"rendered":"Stetson Law presents free seminars in Ocala to help protect elder consumers from scams and fraud"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Contact Brandi Palmer<br \/>\nCommunications Specialist<br \/>\n727-562-7381<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gulfport, Fla.<\/strong> &#8211; Stetson University College of Law will warn elderly citizens about the dangers of scams and fraud at free consumer protection presentations in Ocala in March.<\/p>\n<p>Stetson Law Professor Nick Cox will speak about identity theft March 29-30 at two sessions: 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.-4 p.m., at the Ocala Hilton, 3600 SW 36th Ave.<\/p>\n<p>With experience in both the Office of the Florida Attorney General and the State Attorney&#8217;s Office, Cox has worked closely with state and federal agencies to educate citizens and law enforcement personnel on consumer fraud issues.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Identity theft has a devastating impact on its victims,&#8221; said Rebecca Morgan, director of Stetson&#8217;s Center for Excellence in Elder Law. &#8220;Too often seniors are targeted as victims of identity theft.
