Gulfport, Fla.<\/strong> – The National Clearinghouse for Science Technology and the Law at Stetson University College of Law will host “Terrorists, Hurricanes and Viruses: What’s Next?” in the Great Hall at the Gulfport campus at 1401 61st St. S. at noon on March 13.<\/p>\n

Dr. James Young will present the talk. Young, a physician and coroner and special advisor to the deputy minister of public safety and emergency preparedness for the government of Canada, has worked in disaster preparedness at both the national and international levels.<\/p>\n

Young co-managed the SARS crisis in Ontario and helped identify the victims of the tsunami disaster, Bali nightclub bombing, 9\/11 and Swiss Air. He also supervised the autopsies of four Canadian soldiers killed by American friendly fire in Afghanistan.<\/p>\n

“The Clearinghouse has made tremendous strides in its efforts to encourage the scientific, technological and legal communities to share resources in the interest of justice,” said Carol Henderson, Clearinghouse director.<\/p>\n

Under Henderson’s direction, Stetson’s National Clearinghouse, a program of the National Institute of Justice, was formed in 2003 to advance the use of science and technology in the law.<\/p>\n

The Clearinghouse provides a comprehensive online database of legal and scientific research and educates lawyers, judges and law enforcement personnel about new developments in forensic technology and forensic evidence handling in the courts.<\/p>\n
