He described the importance of an independent judiciary, the rule of law, free speech and a free press in helping a just society to prevail. He also encouraged students to become involved in service to their community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Carlson previously served as president of the State Bar of Montana from 1993 to 1994, on the executive council of the National Conference of Bar Presidents, and chaired the ABA House of Delegates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>American Bar Association President Bob Carlson visited Stetson University&#8217;s Gulfport campus on Feb. 12 and presented to students, faculty and staff.
