{"id":28242,"date":"2019-07-02T08:17:12","date_gmt":"2019-07-02T12:17:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/?p=28242"},"modified":"2019-07-02T08:17:14","modified_gmt":"2019-07-02T12:17:14","slug":"american-bar-association-honors-joann-grages-burnett-with-prestigious-young-lawyers-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2019\/07\/02\/american-bar-association-honors-joann-grages-burnett-with-prestigious-young-lawyers-award\/","title":{"rendered":"American Bar Association honors Joann Grages Burnett with prestigious young lawyers award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/career\/career-development-staff.php\">Joann Grages Burnett, Esq.<\/a>, associate director of career and professional development at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/portal\/law\/\">Stetson University College of Law<\/a>, is the recipient of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americanbar.org\/groups\/young_lawyers\/awards_scholarships\/on_the_rise\/\">2019 American Bar Association\u2019s On the Rise \u2013 Top 40 Young Lawyers Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The American\nBar Association\u2019s (ABA) Young Lawyers Division (YLD) annually recognizes 40 ABA\nyoung lawyer members who exemplify a broad range of high achievement,\ninnovation, vision, leadership and legal and community service with its On the\nRise award.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The ABA YLD\nprovides new lawyers with tools for success, skillset development resources and\nnetworking opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The accolade\nrecognizes young lawyers who are shining brightly in their law careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI have had\nthe opportunity to work with some of the most committed, talented, diverse and\ninnovative young lawyers from across the country while serving in the American\nBar Association\u2019s Young Lawyers Division,\u201d said Burnett, who is a Stetson Law\nalumna. \u201cI\u2019m deeply appreciative to my award nominator Shayda Le and honored to\nbe included in this group of amazing lawyers and leaders.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Award\neligibility includes being an ABA member in good standing, a licensed attorney\nin the United States or one of its territories and at least 36 years old or\nyounger during the nomination year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At Stetson\nLaw, Burnett specializes in employer readiness for students and alumni and\noversees postgraduate judicial clerkship initiatives within the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/career\/index.php\">Office of Career and\nProfessional Development<\/a>. She\nserves as the co-chair for Stetson Law\u2019s award-winning \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/today\/2019\/06\/stetson-law-conference-wins-american-bar-award\/\">Professional\nDevelopment Conference: Campus to Career<\/a>\u201d and ABA\u2019s YLD member resources director, where she\nleads the division\u2019s professional development and wellness initiatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prior to providing\nlaw students with career and professional development opportunities, Burnett\nwas an assistant public defender for the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida and\nhandled misdemeanor, juvenile and felony cases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For Burnett,\nthe award is a prominent recognition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis award\nis very special to me,\u201d said Burnett. \u201cAs someone who uses her law degree in a\nunique way at Stetson Law, it is incredibly rewarding to be recognized among so\nmany wonderful young lawyers who I truly respect and admire.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m grateful\nfor the opportunity to serve in the American Bar Association\u2019s Young Lawyers\nDivision and thankful that Stetson Law has supported my involvement with such\nenthusiasm,\u201d said Burnett. \u201cThe Young Lawyers Division has afforded me with so many\nwonderful opportunities and this award is simply the icing on the cake.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Award\nhonorees will receive national recognition in ABA print publications and online\nand on social media and will be recognized at the YLD awards breakfast during\nthe ABA\u2019s 2019 Annual Meeting at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis in San\nFrancisco, California on Saturday, Aug. 10.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Joann Grages Burnett, Esq., associate director of career and professional development at Stetson University College of Law, is the recipient of the 2019 American Bar Association\u2019s On the Rise \u2013 Top 40 Young Lawyers Award.
