The Stetson\nLawyers Alumni Association (SLAA)<\/a> presented four alumni with awards who have\nmade a positive impact in the community and supported Stetson\nUniversity College of Law<\/a> during the 2019 Annual Florida Bar Convention at the\nBoca Raton Resort and Club in Boca Raton, Florida on June 27.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

SLAA has been honoring alumni accomplishments and\npresenting them with awards for more than 25 years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Outstanding Alumni\nRepresentative Award<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stetson Law alumnus Hugo de Beaubien is the recipient of\nthe Outstanding Alumni Representative Award. He was recognized for his\ndedication and service to the SLAA, commitment to the Central Florida alumni\nchapter and encouraging other alumni to participate in the group\u2019s activities.\nBeaubien also established the DSK Law Book Award, which is presented annually\nto the Stetson Law student who has the highest grade in contracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Outstanding<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m honored to receive the 2019 Outstanding Alumni\nRepresentative Award,\u201d said Beaubien. \u201cStetson Law has produced a number of\noutstanding lawyers. I have always felt that alumni should support and give\nback to Stetson Law as they are able to do so for the great education that we\nall received.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beaubien is the founding partner of DSK Law in Orlando\nand has remained connected to Stetson Law throughout his law career and been\ninvolved with the college\u2019s local alumni chapter. His efforts have been an\nintegral part of the alumni group\u2019s continuous growth. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Distinguished Alumnus\nAward<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Pinellas County Sheriff and Stetson Law alumnus Bob\nGualtieri has been honored with the Distinguished Alumnus Award. The accolade\nrecognizes alumni who have been outstanding in their chosen profession and brought\nhonor to the individual and Stetson Law. The award also acknowledges the\nrecipient\u2019s dedication and service to humanity, which fosters Stetson Law\u2019s\nideals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have been the Pinellas County Sheriff for the past\neight years and during that time, I have worked to uphold the rule of law and\nprotect individual rights while reducing crime in the county and ensuring\neffective public safety,\u201d said Gualtieri. \u201cReceiving the Distinguished Alumnus\nAward is a humbling honor, especially because of the many other Stetson Law\ngraduates who have achieved so much during their law careers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul M. May\nMeritorious Service Award<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Stetson Law alumnus Prineet Sharma has been recognized\nfor his utmost dedication and support of Stetson Law and the SLAA with the Paul\nM. May Meritorious Service Award. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Sharma is the founding partner of Sharma Eminent Domain\nLawyers in Winter Garden. He is a member of the Veterans Law Institute\u2019s<\/a> advisory board, and\nalong with his wife Shamila Sharma, who is also a Stetson Law alumna, has\nestablished the Sharma Family Veterans Endowed Scholarship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m very honored and humbled to receive the Paul M. May\nMeritorious Service Award,\u201d said Sharma. \u201cSupporting veteran scholarships allows\nme to give back to those who have given so much for us to enjoy our country\u2019s\nfreedoms. If anyone deserves recognition, then it\u2019s the brave men and women and\ntheir families who serve so honorably to protect us.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ben Willard Award<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a fourth-generation Floridian, Stetson Law alumna Pam\nBondi was elected twice to serve as Florida\u2019s Attorney General and currently\nchairs Ballard Partners\u2019 corporate regulatory practice. The SLAA acknowledged her\naccomplishments with the Ben Willard Award. The recognition honors alumni who\nhave expended extra efforts to prevail for the benefit of Florida\u2019s citizens,\nand whose humanitarian achievements have brought distinction to themselves and\nStetson Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"Pam<\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m beyond humbled and do not feel deserving of this\ngreat honor because so many Stetson Law graduates do so much for Florida and\nour country,\u201d said Bondi. \u201cI was a career prosecutor and became Attorney\nGeneral to help people. My Stetson Law professors had a tremendous impact on my\ncareer goals and I learned the value of giving back and have tried to make a\nsmall impact on the world.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bondi tackled dozens of state and national initiatives,\nincluding filing comprehensive state litigation regarding the nation-wide\nopioid crisis as Florida\u2019s Attorney General. She also played a leading role in\nachieving the National Mortgage Settlement, which is the largest consumer\nfinancial protection settlement in the United States\u2019 history and ultimately\nresulted in $56 billion in relief nationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an extraordinary victory for Florida, Bondi sued\nBritish Petroleum (BP) and other responsible parties in the Deepwater Horizon\noil spill case and settled for more than $2 billion in economic relief for\nFlorida alone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During her tenure as Florida\u2019s Attorney General, Bondi worked\naggressively to shut down pill mills, combat opioid abuse, ban synthetic drugs,\nend human trafficking, test previously unprocessed sexual assault kits, develop\na school safety app to prevent school shootings and recovered more than $1\nbillion in consumer protection, antitrust and false claims matters.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
