The informal gathering gave participants a chance to express concerns and exchange ideas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Campus Climate Survey is currently open for students\nfaculty and staff; the deadline for completion is March 6. The purpose is to gauge\nthe institution\u2019s progress on becoming a more\ndiverse, equitable and inclusive community and identify new initiatives that\ncould be implemented or any action areas that should be addressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Wonderful changes can come from our collective voice, and we\nneed continued participation in the survey for this reason, Dean Alexandre\nsaid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThis is something that can be meaningful, and you can tell\nyour honest truth.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The survey is confidential. Submitted surveys go directly to\nneutral third party provider, Pryor Education Insights, which will compile and\nanalyze the data. Results will be available in the fall, and Dean Alexandre\nhopes to have representatives from the company on campus to explain the\nfindings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last campus climate survey was conducted in 2016, and it\nled to such programs as the Food Pantry and Sexual Health Resource Area and the\nidentification of gender-neutral bathrooms on campus, as well as the creation\nof a Diversity and Inclusion Committee and Staff Advisory Committee. That year,\nthe response rate from the College of Law (including students, staff and\nfaculty) was 34 percent. This year, Dean Alexandre said she hopes to have at\nleast 50 percent participation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"864\" src=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/lance-long-town-hall_web-1024x864.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-29043\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/lance-long-town-hall_web-1024x864.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/lance-long-town-hall_web-500x422.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/lance-long-town-hall_web-768x648.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/lance-long-town-hall_web.jpg 1080w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption>Professor Lance Long said they hope to have robust student participation in the Campus Climate Survey.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Professor Lance Long, a member of the Diversity and Inclusion\nCommittee, beseeched students to take the time to complete the survey. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe really want more input from the students,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019re\nwhy we exist.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During the meeting, students expressed the need for more\ninvolvement in the community \u2013 specifically, the school\u2019s need to reach out to\nlocal organizations such as the St. Petersburg Bar Association and other similar\norganizations. The emphasis was on going out in the legal community and not\nmerely inviting people to speak or network on campus. More visibility will only\nlead to more opportunities for Stetson Law students and the College of Law\noverall, students said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Other student concerns included greater support for students\nthat commute and students with families, as well as easier access to member of\nthe administration. Faculty and staff concerns centered on tension between\ndifferent departments and staff changes. There was a request to have staff\nchange information available in real time. With these needs voiced, the College\nof Law can now work to address them. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Dean Alexandre reiterated the best way to have your voice heard in a confidential manner is to fill out the survey before the March 6 deadline.
