The series of awards honored them for their impact on student achievement and Stetson Law\u2019s national reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Homer &amp; Dolly Hand Award in Faculty Research: Professor Kirsten Davis<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stetson Law alumna Dolly Hand established this award to honor faculty who are dedicated teachers, have recent notable scholarship or creative work achievements in their areas of expertise, and who strive to make a difference within their communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/faculty\/home\/kirsten-davis.php\">Professor Kirsten Davis<\/a>\u2019 work has gone above and beyond those criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In recent years, she has been exploring the role of lawyers as citizens with a special responsibility for justice, a role that every state\u2019s ethics rules recognize.&nbsp;Through a lens guided by rhetorical theory, her scholarly, creative, and service work has explored lawyers\u2019 professional identity as a rhetorical practice \u2013 in particular, the lawyer\u2019s ability and obligation to speak as public citizens on matters of public concern, including social justice. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This work includes two scholarly articles, a book chapter, regular posts on LawProf Blog Network Appellate Advocacy Blog, and service that includes participating in the Florida Bar\u2019s Special Committee to Review Professionalism in Florida.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Dickerson-Brown Award in Faculty Scholarship: Professor Anne Mullins<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Selected by the Dean with input from the Faculty Scholarship Committee, this award recognizes a faculty member who has published a book in the past two years, or multiple, highly regarded works of scholarship over a two-year period, thereby helping significantly enhance the College of Law\u2019s academic reputation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/faculty\/home\/anne-mullins.php\">Professor Anne Mullins<\/a>, who said she was \u201cthrilled to receive the award,\u201d said three projects were critical in helping her earn the recognition. She authored the new textbook <em>Florida Legal Research<\/em>, which multiple law schools throughout the state have adopted. As part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/law.unlv.edu\/us-feminist-judgments\">Feminist Judgments Project<\/a>, she reimagined U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas\u2019s opinion in Desert Palace, Inc. v. Costa in a way that reached \u201cthe same ultimate result but through the application of feminist theory and very different rhetorical techniques.\u201d The third project, Unending Conversation, involves working with the <em>Stetson Law Review<\/em> Forum to \u201cfeature essays responding to extant legal writing scholarship.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She said working with students on Unending Conversation has been incredibly rewarding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI had the opportunity to work with an exceptional team of <em>Stetson Law Review<\/em> staffers, led by Liz Kellar, alongside a group of nationally known legal writing scholars,\u201d Mullins said. \u201cEvery member of the project was incredibly thoughtful, engaged, and hard-working. They really inspired me in my work on the project.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Excellence in Teaching Award: Professor Joseph Morrissey<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This award is given to a full-time professor who has made outstanding contributions in teaching students both inside and outside the classroom \u2013 as well as by example. A professor who is part of Stetson Law\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www2.stetson.edu\/law\/news\/index.php\/2020\/09\/08\/stetson-law-launches-a-new-business-law-concentration\/\">business law concentration<\/a> faculty, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stetson.edu\/law\/faculty\/home\/joseph-morrissey.php\">Professor Joseph Morrissey<\/a> was named the 2021-2023 Leroy Highbaugh Research Chair in May of 2021. Under that designation, he is researching and writing a book on surrogacy. He said it\u2019s an honor to yet again be recognized for his passion for teaching and mentoring students.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI\u2019m deeply honored to receive this year\u2019s Excellence in Teaching Award,\u201d said Morrissey. \u201cFor me, working with and mentoring students is the reason I came to academia. It\u2019s truly a privilege to be a part of each student\u2019s personal and professional development.
