Stetson University College of Law alumna Elizabeth Wood Voss ’08 was honored with a prestigious 2009 Burton Foundation Award for Legal Achievement at the Tenth Anniversary Program in Washington, D.C. on June 15.<\/p>\n

Wood Voss received the award for her piece, “The Adam Walsh Child Protection and Safety Act of 2006: \u00a0 A Violation of the Criminal Defendant’s Sixth Amendment Rights to Confrontation and Compulsory Process<\/a>.” The Stetson Law alumna joined 14 other recent law school graduates from across the country who received this honor.<\/em><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

<\/em>“We are extremely proud of Elizabeth’s achievement,” said Stetson Law Dean Darby Dickerson, a former Burton Award winner, who attended the black-tie awards ceremony along with hundreds of America’s most respected judges, attorneys, and law professors. “Over the years, Stetson has won four Burton Awards, which is a tribute to our outstanding program in legal research and writing.”Stetson Law is currently ranked number five among law schools in the nation for legal writing by U.S. News & World Report<\/a>.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

The non-profit Burton Awards<\/a>, sponsored by the Library of Congress and The Burton Foundation, reward major achievements in the law ranging from literary awards to the greatest reform in law. The program’s namesake, William C. Burton, wrote the authoritative reference book, Burton’s Legal Thesaurus<\/em> (4th edition).Other honorees for the evening included U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, legal writing expert Bryan Garner, former Chief Justice of the New York Court of Appeals Judith Kaye, and television writer and producer David E.
