Many continue to serve justice in several ways.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVeterans took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and to bear true faith and allegiance to the same,\u201d said Charles Rose, the director of the Center for Excellence in Advocacy at Stetson University College of Law.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6299\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6299\" style=\"width: 200px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/911-tower-with-flags_TN.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6299  \" title=\"A display of flags on the Stetson Law campus in Gulfport in memory of 9\/11.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/09\/911-tower-with-flags_TN-200x300.jpg\" alt=\"A display of flags on the Stetson Law campus in Gulfport in memory of 9\/11.\" width=\"200\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6299\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">A display of flags on the Stetson Law campus in Gulfport in memory of 9\/11.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Rose served as a judge advocate and retired from active duty service in the U.S. Army in 2004, when he joined the faculty at Stetson Law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose of us in a law school environment, whether teaching or learning, continue to fulfill that oath each and every day,\u201d Professor Rose said. \u201cIt is, in a very real sense, a lifelong commitment to those principles upon which our country rests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stetson Law\u2019s advocacy program provides\u00a0opportunities to continue to\u00a0serve justice. \u201cThere is a direct correlation between the influx of veterans as law professors and veterans as students,\u201d Rose said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;From the conversations I have had with my fellow veterans around campus, I feel that law school does serve as a call to action to continue serving others,&#8221; said Javier Centonzio, a\u00a0student entering his third year of law school at Stetson\u00a0who served in Iraq as a Marine. &#8220;It might not be specifically serving other veterans, or returning to the military to serve our great nation, but each veteran has their own calling to continue to serve others through the practice of law and other fields.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For myself, I find the skills\u00a0learned at law school empower\u00a0us to make change and advocate, in the purest sense of the word, for those less fortunate in our society,&#8221; Centonzio said.\u00a0&#8220;That might mean fighting for\u00a0veterans\u00a0\u00a0seeking \u00a0benefits or ensuring that indigent criminal defendants\u00a0receive quality legal representation as guaranteed in the\u00a0Constitution, the\u00a0Constitution\u00a0that we all took an oath to uphold and to defend.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There are more than 30 student veterans at Stetson.
