Professor George Belnavis visited Stetson Law this fall from the Norman Manley School of Law in Kingston, Jamaica, to teach a course Sept. 6-16 on Criminal Law in the Caribbean. It was the professor’s first time teaching in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Professor George Belnavis recently taught a course on Criminal Law in the Caribbean at Stetson.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The American and Caribbean Law Initiative, of which Stetson is a member, brought Professor Belnavis to Gulfport to teach the two-week course.<\/p>\n

\u201cI hope that I will inspire the students and give them a better understanding of law in the Caribbean,\u201d Professor Belnavis said.<\/p>\n

For the past 10 years in Jamaica, Professor Belnavis has advised students and members of the public through the Legal Aid Clinic at Norman Manley Law School. Recently, he published Criminal Practice and Procedure in the Magistrates\u2019 Courts in the Commonwealth Caribbean<\/em>, a comprehensive guide to the cases and rulings governing procedures in the courts.<\/p>\n

Professor Belnavis received an LL.B. from the University of the West Indies and a Certificate of Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School. He served in private practice for 11 years and as Crown Counsel in the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
