Stetson Law alumni Matthew Bachman \u201907, Elizabeth C. Barnes \u201911, Thomas Yaegers \u201905, and professors Robert Batey, Joseph Morrissey, Jason Palmer and Ellen Podgor joined the Pride Scholarship committee to show their support for law students who dedicate themselves to extracurricular activities and service related to LGBTQIA issues.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_6645\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-6645\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_1441.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6645\" title=\"Stetson Law students, alumni and faculty gathered to support the Pride Scholarship at the Mindy Solomon Gallery on Oct. 25.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/11\/IMG_1441-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Stetson Law students, alumni and faculty gathered to support the Pride Scholarship at the Mindy Solomon Gallery on Oct. 25.\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-6645\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Stetson Law students, alumni and faculty gathered to support the Pride Scholarship at the Mindy Solomon Gallery on Oct. 25.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u201cThe Pride Scholarship is an important component of Stetson\u2019s efforts to assist students who give back to the community in this important and needed legal area,\u201d said Professor Podgor.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u201cThe law is rapidly changing in Florida and the country regarding the rights of the LGBTQIA community,\u201d said alumna Elizabeth Barnes. \u201cBy sponsoring and promoting this scholarship, Stetson is not only showing its support for our community; it is also showing that the Stetson tradition of leadership and excellence\u00a0extends beyond moot court and trial team. This scholarship fosters knowledge and leadership in Stetson students and alumni,\u00a0empowering them\u00a0to be leaders in a rapidly changing and important realm of the law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">Since graduating this year, Barnes has joined the board of the Pinellas County ACLU.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">\u201cIt is important to celebrate diversity among students, because by embracing diversity, the entire student body as a whole will be more successful,\u201d alumnus Matthew Bachman said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\" align=\"center\">While he was still a student at Stetson Law a few years ago, Bachman was recognized by the Gulfport City Council for helping to expand the city\u2019s human rights ordinance to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identification.
