Reece Smith Jr. Public Service Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Contact Frank Klim<br \/>\nExecutive Director of Communications<br \/>\n(727) 562-7889<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gulfport, Fla.<\/strong> &#8211; Stetson University College of Law announces the recipient of the 2004 William Reece Smith Jr. Public Service Award, Sarasota attorney Mary Alice Jackson.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the elder law practice of Boyer &amp; Jackson P.A., Jackson, is chair of the Hospice of Southwest Florida Board of Directors, former chair of the Elder Law Section of The Florida Bar, and a member and leader of many service and professional organizations. She is also a cum laude graduate of the Stetson Law.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In today&#8217;s legal world where business acumen is sometimes given more play than the tired phrase \u2018professionalism,&#8217; it&#8217;s particularly significant that awards are given which recognize public service,&#8221; Jackson said. &#8220;Stetson has been a wonderful leader in promoting public service among its student body within its curriculum and its extracurricular activities.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Stetson established the William Reece Smith Jr. Award in 1990 to recognize and honor individuals who have demonstrated exemplary achievements in public service. William Reece Smith, the award&#8217;s namesake and its first recipient, is the past president of the American, International and Florida bar associations.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m grateful for, and stand in no little awe of, the example he has given to attorneys both as a member of the bar and of our society, and hope to live up to the ideals which this award represents,&#8221; Jackson said.<\/p>\n<p>The College of Law presented the award at its annual Honors and Awards Ceremony on May 14, which also recognized outstanding students and faculty.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Stetson University College of Law recognizes Mary Alice Jackson with Wm.
