Florin JD \u201980 and Thomas D. Roebig Jr. JD \u201986 have long been supporters of civil rights education and their mentor, Stetson University College of Law Professor Robert Bickel. Since 2006, the Tampa Bay-based <a href=\"http:\/\/www.florinroebig.com\/\">Florin Roebig<\/a> law firm has helped fund a unique course on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/faculty\/bickel\/civilrights\/constitutional-law-and-the-civil-rights-movement.php\">Constitutional Law and the Civil Rights Movement<\/a> at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/\">Stetson Law<\/a>. The experiential course provides students with an opportunity to learn about social justice firsthand, traveling each summer to six cities in the south to visit historic sites, museums, institutes and veterans of the Civil Rights Movement.<\/p>\n<p>On July 25, Stetson Law <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/faculty\/bickel-robert-d\/\">Professor Bickel<\/a> presented Florin Roebig with a plaque for continuing to support the course at Stetson.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9715\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9715\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Florin_Bickel_Roebig5.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9715\" title=\"Stetson Law alumni Wil H. Roebig Jr. JD \u201986 accepted the honor from Professor Robert Bickel, a framed article about the course the firm helps fund.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSocial justice is part of employment law,\u201d Florin said in accepting the award. \u201cWe deal with clients with discrimination complaints at the law firm on a daily basis.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added that supporting social justice is a large part of their firm\u2019s daily work in advocating for employee rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of the law students we\u2019ve worked with who have taken this course return and say they\u2019ve been personally affected,\u201d Roebig said. He shared that Professor Bickel provided the inspiration he needed to focus on social justice in his legal career.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll of us deserve common decency, dignity and fair pay,\u201d said Roebig.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPoverty is one of America\u2019s great challenges,\u201d Professor Bickel said. \u201cWhen workers are treated unfairly or paid less than a living wage, it cuts to the heart of dignity. The Memphis Sanitation Worker\u2019s Movement and Dr. King\u2019s Poor People\u2019s campaign remind us that our dignity as workers is a part of our dignity as people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Stetson Law will be offering a new concentration for law students interested in social justice advocacy starting in the fall. Stetson Law professors Bickel and Judith Scully will oversee the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/academics\/advocacy\/home\/social-justice-advocacy-concentration.php\">Social Justice Advocacy Certificate of Concentration<\/a> program for J.D. students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alumni Wil H.
