Zarama\u201912, who recently graduated with distinction from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/international\/llm\/\">Stetson\u2019s International Law LL.M. program<\/a>, has been selected to work with the prestigious <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ibanet.org\/Education_and_Internships\/Legal_Internship_Programme.aspx\">International Bar Association Legal Internship Programme in Human Rights <\/a>in London in the fall.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_9738\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-9738\" style=\"width: 197px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Zarama_Juan.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-9738\" title=\"Juan M. Zarama graduated this May.\" src=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/08\/Zarama_Juan-197x300.jpg\" alt=\"Juan M. Zarama graduated this May.\" width=\"197\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-9738\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Juan M. Zarama graduated this May.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Zarama said he has always had a passion for international human rights.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy interest in international human rights came from my professional and academic experience working in the legal analysis of international criminal issues and human rights violations,\u201d said Zarama.<\/p>\n<p>While working with the London-based program, he will assist in developing academic papers and researching key legal topics of both local and international relevance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look forward to bringing the IBA\u2019s Internship Program to my understanding of the promotion, protection and enforcement of human rights as they are applied under international standards,\u201d said Zarama.<\/p>\n<p>While at Stetson, Zarama worked as a research assistant for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.law.stetson.edu\/faculty\/nagle-luz-e\/\">Professor Luz Nagle<\/a> on human trafficking issues. She encouraged him to apply for the internship.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to attending Stetson, Zarama studied law at the Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia. He interned there at the Human Rights Clinic and researched discrimination issues in Latin America. After he graduated from the Universidad de Los Andes, Zarama worked as a junior consultant at the International Organization for Migration conducting legal research on the transitional justice process in Colombia.<\/p>\n<p>The International Bar Association is involved with cutting edge issues that impact the international legal community. The IBA plays a role in promoting the status and independence of the profession, bringing lawyers together to exchange information and discuss matters of mutual concern, and promotes human rights, commercial and economic law reform.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Story by Valeria Obi Juan M.
