Hannah Sun is a pianist known for her sensitive artistry and versatility. Her mission, through a multifaceted career as a soloist, chamber musician, educator, church music director, and composer, is to connect with diverse audiences around the world.

Sun has concertized throughout the United States, Europe, Asia, and Australia, performing as soloist with the Manhattan Chamber Players, Orchestra of Southern Utah, and Orchestra Corda Spiritus of Queensland, Australia. Her accolades include top prizes from Stecher and Horowitz Foundation’s New York Piano Competition, Long Island Conservatory’s International Music Competition, National YoungArts Foundation, and Kosciuszko Foundation’s Chopin Piano Competition.

An advocate of new music, Sun has most recently collaborated with musicians of the Orlando Contemporary Chamber Orchestra and ensemblenewSRQ in Sarasota. She is also a founding member of the Persimmon Ensemble, a new music ensemble of clarinet, cello, piano, and electric guitar whose programs feature a confluence of electro-acoustic soundscapes and visual arts. As a composer, performances of her original work Plastisphere, commissioned by SEAS (Sustainable Environment through the Arts and Sciences), have raised awareness of the detriment of plastic pollution on sea life through the collective expression of music and movement.

A dedicated educator, Sun currently serves as faculty at Stetson University in Central Florida, where she cultivates the next generation of musicians and collaborates with students and faculty at the School of Music. She has also served as faculty at the University of Central Florida. Her private studio of talented young students have gained recognition by winning international competitions and performing at Carnegie Hall.

Sun was recently appointed Traditional Music Director at Orange City United Methodist Church in Florida, where she engages the local community through worship music. She has led interactive workshops in New York City through the Gluck Community Service Fellowship, with the Kneisel Hall-Blue Hill: Together in Music outreach program in Maine, and at the Li Song Piano School in Dongguan, China. She has also led workshops, organized fundraisers, and performed with Shining Light Ministries, a Gospel and Performing Arts initiative that seeks to expand perspectives and impact incarcerated lives.

Sun earned her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees at The Juilliard School working with Jerome Lowenthal and Seymour Lipkin. Her other teachers include her mother Melody Qi He, Nehama Patkin, Stephen McIntyre, Geoffrey Tozer, Phillip Kawin, Constance Keene, Steven Mayer, and Miyoko Lotto.
