The
chairman of the State Duma, Viacheslav Volodin, described for
journalists on
Monday how an amendment to the constitution, introduced by the
president and
mentioning God, is worded.
"The
Russian Federation, united by a thousand-year history and
preserving the memory
of ancestors and giving to us our ideals and faith in God and
also the
continuity of the development of the Russian state, recognizes
the historically
produced state unity," Volodin read.
In
addition, the amendments introduced by the Russian president
propose stating in
article 68 of the fundamental law that "culture in the Russian
Federation
is a unique inheritance of its multiethnic people," says the
text of the
amendment, which Interfax possesses.
It
also is proposed to read that "culture is maintained and
preserved by the state."
In
his turn, the vice-speaker of the State Duma, Petr Tolstoy,
reported that,
among the amendments introduced on Monday by the Russian
president for second
reading of the draft law on changes in the constitution, it is
proposed to
enshrine the concept that marriage is a union of a man and a
woman. (tr. by PDS,
