Russian president's plans for Easter a mystery

KREMLIN STILL DOES NOT KNOW WHETHER PUTIN WILL ATTEND PASCHAL SERVICE IN CHURCH OF CHRIST THE SAVIOR

Interfax-Religiia, 16 April 2020

Dmitry Peskov, the Russian president's press secretary, declared that he still does not know whether the head of state is planning to attend the Easter service in the church of Christ the Savior this year.

"I still cannot tell you anything about the president's plans. I am not informed about them," he told journalists on Thursday, responding to a question from Interfax.

By years-long tradition, the president always attended the Easter service in a cathedral of the Russian church.

The only time that Putin did not attend the church of Christ the Savior for Pascha was in 2003, when the head of state was in Tajikistan on an official visit and participated in the Easter service in the Orthodox church of St. Nicholas in Dushanbe. (tr. by PDS, posted 16 April 2020)
