OVERTURNS
SUSPENDED SENTENCES OF JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES IN SVERDLOVSK OBLAST
The
Sverdlovsk oblast
court overturned the suspended sentence of the convicted
Jehovah's Witnesses
Alexander Prianikov, Venera Dulova, and Daria Dulova. The case
was returned for
reconsideration in the court of the first instance. This was
reported on the
website of the religious organization.
In late
January 2020,
the believers were found guilty on the basis of the article
concerning
participation in the activity of an extremist organization (part
2 of article
282.2 of the Criminal Code). Prianikov was given a
two-and-a-half-year
suspended sentence. Venera Dulova was given a two-year suspended
sentence and
her 19-year-old daughter, one year suspended.
Four
months after
that, a new case was opened against them, about drawing people
into an
extremist organization (part 1.1 of article 282.2 of CC). They
were charged
with conducting conversations about God with residents of
