HEAD
AGAIN CONGRATULATES LUKASHENKO, NOTING "SPIRITUAL, MORAL, AND
PATRIORIC
EDUCATION" OF BELARUSIANS
On 30
August, the
head of the RPTsMP (Russian Orthodox Church of the Moscow
Patriarchate),
Kirill, sent birthday congratulations to Alexander Lukashenko,
who continues to
consider himself president of the republic of Belarus despite
the clear
falsification of the elections on 9 August and widespread
protests of citizens
of the country.
"I would
like to
note your attention to the mission of the Belorussian exarchate
and support for
socially significant initiatives of the clergy and Orthodox
laity," the
lett4er of the primate of the RPTsMP, who was quoted by his
press service.
While the full text of the letter was not published.
Kirill
expressed
certainty that the future "development of cooperation between
the church
and state structure and all healthy forces of society will
facilitate the
spiritual, moral, and patriotic education of residents of
Belarus."
Previously,
on 10
August, following Vladimir Putin, Kirill congratulated
Lukashenko on his
"victory" in the elections. Countries of the European Union have
officially declared their nonrecognition of this "victory," but
the
US.A. has maintained silence, while condemning acts of egregious
violence
against peaceful protesters in Belarua. (tr. by PDS, posted 31
