91-YEAR-OLD
PATRIARCH
FILARET HAS RECOVERED FROM CORONAVIRUS AND IS READY FOR RELEASE
Credo.Press, 14
September 2020
The
condition of the
health of the primate of the Kiev patriarchate, Filaret, has
substantially
improved, and in the near future he will be able to leave the
hospital,
Interfax reported on 14 September, citing the Russian
metropolitan of the
Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kiev Patriarchate, Ioasaf. In
his turn, the
metropolitan cited a telephone conversation with Filaret
himself.
"He is
feeling
so much better that there is a hope for a quick release from the
hospital," Ioasaf writes.
As
previously
reported, the 91-year-old Filaret was hospitalized on 4
September for a routine
test for COVID-19, which returned a positive result. In the
Orthodox Church of
Ukraine, Filaret has the status of honorary patriarch, but he
considers himself
to be the primate of the extremely small Kiev patriarchate that
was restored in
June of last year. (tr. by PDS, posted 14 September 2020)
