Pandemic disrupts Orthodox church's schedule

R.P.Ts. BISHOPS' COUNCIL POSTPONED TO MAY 2022 BECAUSE OF CORONAVIRUS

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church (R.P.Ts.) made the decision to postpone for six months the conduct of the Bishops' Council because of the threat of coronavirus infection.

"Because of the complex epidemic situation, to postpone the conduct of the Bishops' Council to May 2022, setting the dates for the sessions of 26-29 May 2022," say the minutes of the Synod's session that was conducted online on Friday.

 

Earlier it had been proposed that the Council would run from 15 to 18 November 2021. One of the topics of its agenda was the determination of the position of the RPTs in the matter of the authenticity of the tsarist remains that were found near Ekaterinburg.

 

In addition, as the official representative of the church, Vladimir Legoida, told journalists, the church-wide events celebrating the 75th birthday of Patriarch Kirill will also be postponed. (tr. by PDS, posted 15 October 2021)
