POPE FRANCIS: TENSIONS AROUND UKRAINE SHOULD BE RESOLVED PEACEFULLY
Roman Pope Francis expressed support for Ukraine and its people, urging resolution of tensions around the situation through international dialogue.
"I would wish to give assurances of prayers for precious Ukraine, for all of its churches and religious communities, and for all of its people so that the current tensions may be resolved by means of serious international dialogue and not by force of arms," the pontiff declared on Sunday during a traditional message from the window of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican.
"I am very saddened by statistics that I recently learned. This year more arms were produced than last year. Arms are not the way. May this Christmas bring peace to Ukraine," he said. (tr. by PDS, posted 12 December 2021)
