CRIMINAL CASE OPENED FOR INCIDENT OF ATTACK ON ORTHODOX GYMNASIUM IN SERPUKHOV

A criminal case regarding attempted murder and illegal manufacture of an explosive device has been opened in connection with an attack on a gymnasium [secondary school] in a monastery in the Moscow suburb of Serpukhov, the Investigative Committee of Russia (S.K.R.) reported.
"The chairman of the S.K.R. instructed the chief of the investigation department of the S.K.R. for Moscow oblast, A.Yu. Starikov, to report about the course of the investigation of a criminal case regarding an incident in the monastery that has been opened by the regional investigation department on articles concerning attempted murder (part 3 of article 30 and part 3 of article 105 of CC RF) and illegal trafficking in explosive devices (article 223.1 CC RF)," the website of the bureau reported on Monday.
It is noted that according to preliminary information, "a former student of the Orthodox parish school was involved in the commission of the crimes."
"The work of the criminal investigation is underway at the site of the incident involving the most experienced personnel of the S.K.R. for Moscow oblast. The number of victims from the incident is being clarified," the report says.
The S.K.R. added that the progress and results of the investigation were placed under the control of the central office of the S.K.R.
In the morning of 13 December, an 18-year-old graduate of the Orthodox gymnasium of Serpukhov detonated an explosive device on the territory of the gymnasium. According to information from the M.V.D., he himself and a 15-year-old teenager were injured.
According to the latest information from sources, seven children were injured from the blast.
"According to preliminary information, the criminal's motive was the suspect's hatred for teachers of the school and nuns against a background of personal hostile relationships," an informed source told Interfax. (tr. by PDS, posted 13 December 2021)
