Ukrainian president takes note of Moscow church's attempt to aid civilians

ZELENSKY THANKS U.P.Ts. FOR HELP IN ORGANIZING HUMANITARIAN CORRIDOR IN MARIUPOL

Union of Orthodox Journalists, 12 March 2022

On 12 March, Metropolitan of Zaporozhe Luka will deliver to Mariupol more than 90 tons of food and medicines, as part of a humanitarian caravan.

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky, in his address today, thanked the UPTs [Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Moscow Patriarchate] for help in organizing the humanitarian corridor in Mariupol.

"I am grateful to representatives of the church who joined the attempts to protect a humanitarian corridor in Mariupol from shelling," Zelensky noted.

The president called all Ukrainians "to work together, without internal schisms, supporting one another throughout Ukraine."

We recall that on 10 March His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry issued a statement in which he called everybody on whom it depends to ensure genuine humanitarian corridors for immediate evacuation of civilian residents from settlements that are located within the line of fire and to guarantee their safety.

As the Union of Orthodox Journalists reported earlier, the UPTs is helping to organize a humanitarian corridor in Mariupol. (tr. by PDS, posted 12 March 2022)
