Ukrainian churches leaving Moscow's jurisdiction

ALMOST 100 PARISHES READY TO TRANSFER INTO P.Ts.U.; MORE THAN 50 HAVE ALREADY DONE SO—METROPOLITAN EPIFANY

RISU, 29 March 2022

Recently more than 50 parishes in Ukraine have transferred into the PTsU [Orthodox Church of Ukraine] and around 100 are in the process of a move. This was reported during a broadcast of the national telethon by the primate of the Orthodox church, Metropolitan Epifany, Ukrinform relates.

"In recent days we are seeing the start of a wave of transfers of parishes from the RPTs into the PTsU. Over a few days we have already registered more than 50 transfers. We are now saying that about 100 parishes have decided and they are already in the process of a move. That is, Ukrainians, who have been in spiritual delusion hitherto, are gradually beginning to see clearly. Parish after parish, throughout Ukraine, in every oblast, not only in the west but also in the middle, east, and south," the head of PTsU said.

He said that every day the PTsU is being told that one or another parish has decided, has conducted a meeting, and has made the decision for transfer.

"According to the law, each parish has the right to change its jurisdiction. Therefore I urge parishes of the Moscow patriarchate to continue to make the appropriate decision, to not be silent, but to join the recognized Orthodox church," the metropolitan noted.

As RISU has reported, the synod of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine has called clergy and religious communities that are in the jurisdiction of the Moscow patriarchate to enter into canonical unity with the PTsU. (tr. by PDS, posted 29 March 2022)
