UKRAINIAN STATE MUST PROTECT CITIZENS FROM IDEOLOGY OF THE "RUSSIAN WORLD," THE IDEOLOGY OF NAZISM—PRIMATE OF P.Ts.U.
The primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine [PTsU], Metropolitan of Kiev and all-Ukraine Epifany, spoke about this on a broadcast of the national telethon.
"Today we received two news pieces: one is joyful news that Kiev oblast has been liberated. But we also received horrific videos of the murder of the civilian population. This is difficult even to explain and understand. How is it that they kill civilian residents, innocent people and children. And this is also justified because we speak about the ideology of the so-called 'Russian world,' whose inventor and spiritual inspiration is the head of the Moscow patriarchate, Kirill Gundiaev. Today we heard that the Russian people are peace-loving and we again hear about the peoples of Sacred Rus. But the ideology of the 'Russian world,' we see, justifies murder, violence, and war, and therefore this ideology of the 'Russian world,' like the ideology of nazism, must be rejected and condemned," Epifany emphasized. He added that it is the church that blesses terror and blesses effectively killing its own faithful, because there still are in Ukraine many who are members of the Russian Orthodox Church.
"And therefore now the state is called to protect Ukrainians from the influence of this ideology of the 'Russian world;' just like the pro-Russian channels that influenced the consciousness of Ukrainians were prohibited, the parties in the Verkhovna Rada also were prohibited. We are now talking not about a prohibition but about the protection of the Ukrainian populace from the influence of this ideology. Therefore we are called to protect Ukrainians from further institutional influence that the Moscow patriarchate exerts in Ukraine. Because they are inseparably linked with the Russian Orthodox Church and are a part of it," the metropolitan said.
He concluded that the Moscow patriarchate is confined to silence. In it they do not justify, but they also do not condemn the war. But that which we now see in Ukraine can be compared only with nazism, the primate of the PTsU emphasized. (tr. by PDS, posted 5 April 2022)
