P.Ts.U. PRIMATE: "I AM ON THE LIST OF THOSE WHO POSE A THREAT FOR RUSSIANS"
In the first days of the attack on Kiev, Russian saboteurs tried to attack the residence of the primate of the PTsU [Orthodox Church of Ukraine] in the St. Michael's Golden-domed monastery. This was described by Metropolitan Epifany in an interview with LV.ua.
"As far as I know from various information from foreign and our intelligence, I am on a particular list of those who pose a threat for Russians. But despite everything I have no fear," he noted.
"In the early days it was very dangerous, when so-called sabotage groups were working. During the first three nights they even tried to attack the St. Michael's Golden-domed monastery, my residence, but thanks to our service personnel and our security force, this attack was repulsed. And in the course of these days I have already for more than 40 days of ongoing war been in our spiritual center of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, the St. Michael's Golden-domed monastery," the first hierarch added.
The PTsU primate emphasized that this monastery is extremely important for Ukraine and for the people.
"This monastery has played a definite role in the modern period of our history. Beginning back with the Orange Revolution and the Revolution of Dignity, as you know; and now this monastery is a spiritual symbol of the regeneration of our church and of all our Ukrainian state. It has a glorious history—around a thousand years. It has endured much. Its central church was destroyed and the monastery was not active during soviet times, but it was regenerated and restored.
In our modern time it has played a very important role as a spiritual center. Therefore as the primate I am on site and I fully perform my duties as primate. I visit our service personnel and the leadership of the city. I continually raise daily prayers and I am convinced that the Lord hears them and fulfills them for good, and this our joint prayer will certainly lead us to complete victory. And therefore, when the least opportunity arises to visit my flock in the place where it is now suffering, I do this," Metropolitan Epifany emphasized. (tr. by PDS, posted 13 April 2022)
