American preacher reaches out to Ukrainians

EVANGELIST FRANKLIN GRAHAM CONDUCTS EASTER SERVICE FROM LVIV, UKRAINE

InVictory, 18 April 2022

Franklin Graham delivered an Easter message, which was broadcast live on Fox News from Lviv, Ukraine. A special choir and the heads of the Baptist and Pentecostal unions of Ukraine participated in the service, the Christian megaportal InVictory reports.

"Now it is Easter, and usually on Easter we say: 'Christ is risen,' and the response we hear is: 'He is risen indeed.' And that is true. Our Lord Jesus Christ is alive. He is risen, and today I greet you from Lviv in Ukraine. Ukraine is a country with a rich history. A country with almost a thousand years of church history. It is the breadbasket of Europe. Its flag is blue over gold, representing the blue heaven and the gold or yellow harvest. Such beauty, but now all this is the epicenter of a war in which thousands of people have already died. More than 11 million people have left their homes. About half of them have left the country," Graham said.

"This is a difficult time for Ukraine. So much suffering in this country. And we at Samaritan's Purse have decided to help. We have field hospitals. We have several dispensaries. We can provide food. Around 160 of our people are working here in the field. Chaplains have come here from the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, in order to minister in hospitals, to pray with people, and to comfort them. It seems important to me that on this Easter we remember the people in Ukraine and pray for people in Ukraine, and I will ask the president of the Ukrainian Union of Baptists to come and open the program with prayer. Join him in prayer in your hearts for people of this country, Ukraine," Franklin Graham noted.

The service opened with a prayer by the head of the All-Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christians-Baptists, Valery Antoniuk.

"Today a special choir has joined us, which was gathered especially for this program. Some of them are refugees, people who have no home or place to go to. It is a great honor and joy to receive this special Easter choir from Lviv and from Ukraine," Graham added.

In his sermon, the evangelist spoke about the cruelty of the world and the mercy and sacrifice of God, and he urged prayer for salvation.

The closing prayer was delivered by the senior bishop of the Ukrainian Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith, Mikhail Panochko. (tr. by PDS, posted 18 April 2022)
