Ukrainian church appeals to clergy of Moscow church to reject its hierarchy

SOBER UP FROM MOSCOW DRUGS! P.Ts.U. SYNOD CALLS U.P.Ts.M.P. CLERGY TO UNITY

RISU, 16 May 2022

The Synod of the PTsU (Orthodox Church of Ukraine) called the clergy of the UPTsMP (Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate) to unity and to the joint creation of a united autocephalous local church as defined by the canons and the Tomos concerning autocephaly. This was reported by the PTsU Synod, which was reacting to the statement by the clergy of the Moscow patriarchate that Russians started the war because of the Tomos, Poroshenko, and the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

"Like many of you, we learned with sadness and disappointment about the decisions and statements that were published last week in the name of the metropolitanate of the Moscow patriarchate in Ukraine," the PTsU noted.

"The Holy Synod of the PTsU calls the leaders of the Moscow patriarchate in Ukraine to come to their senses from the Moscow drugs and lethargic intoxication and to see the real life of the church and society and their needs and desires."

"In the name of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine, we have called you again and again to the unity and the collective creation of a united autocephalous local church as this is defined by the canons and the Tomos concerning autocephaly. For thirty years, Moscow has been deceiving you, promising to respond to the conciliarly affirmed desire of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine to have an autocephalous, administratively independent structure. Where are the decisions promised in Moscow back in 1992? How have the promises to struggle for autocephaly been fulfilled, which 30 years ago the hierarchs in Kiev and Kharkov stated in writing? Instead of specific steps and decisions you are again advised 'to contemplate and discuss,' in the hope that your leadership will be able to leave everything just as it was in the past," the document says.

The PTsU is giving assurances that parishes that join the Ukrainian church will maintain their own traditions and may freely select the language for conducting the divine liturgy.

"Rectors and clerics who support the decision of their own parishes will remain in their own jobs. The same applies to hierarchs of the Moscow patriarchate in Ukraine if they wish to perform their canonical responsibility and follow the procedure specified in the Tomos concerning autocephaly," the PTsU hierarchs mention.
