War causing realignment of Orthodox affiliations

SINCE RUSSIA'S AGGRESSION AGAINST UKRAINE, 120 CLERICS OF U.P.Ts.M.P. HAVE TRANSFERRED INTO P.Ts.U.

RISU, 26 May 2022

The primate of the PTsU [Orthodox Church of Ukraine], Metropolitan Epifany, talked about this during a speech in the Bishops' Council. The first hierarch's report was posted on the official website of the PTsU.

"Since Russia's great aggression against Ukraine, approximately 400 religious communities, 120 clergymen, and 2 monasteries from the jurisdiction of the Moscow patriarchate have joined the PTsU. Why do I say 'approximately'? While preparing this report, we collected relevant data in the dioceses, but they are changing constantly: every day there is reported the conduct of meetings of parishes and their decisions to depart from dependence upon the Russian church.

"So as of today, the total number of PTsU parishes is approximately 7,600 and of clerics, approximately 4,900," Metropolitan Epifany declared. (tr. by PDS, posted 26 May 2022)
