On behalf of the Student Government Association, I would like to wish everyone a relaxing and beautiful winter break and holiday season. We all know it’s more than well-deserved. No matter how you think your finals went this week, don’t check Blackboard just yet! Just give yourself a bit of a break first.
Now, to be a little sentimental, I want to express just how proud of us as a student body I am. We’ve weathered many storms this year, in more ways than one, and I don’t think we have spent a lot of time acknowledging just how strong we are. I won’t try to sugarcoat it; this semester has been hard on many of us. Losing Nick this semester, especially after enduring the loss of two students, Dane and Andy, last semester, is a pain many of us still feel keenly. I don’t know how we would have gotten through it without the way this community has supported each other. While there were plenty of good times in between, I’m grateful that 2017 is coming to a close. In 2018, I’m hoping we continue to love and take care of each other in the same way.
To the December graduates leaving us, congratulations on the start of a new chapter for you post-grad and, more importantly, congratulations on upstaging your May 2018 counterparts. We love you and will miss you more than you can imagine. To the first-year students that just finished their first semester of college, I told you going to every FOCUS week event would pay off. You survived your first-college finals week! That’s a feat and don’t forget that. To all the faculty, we appreciate all you have to teach us. There are so many lessons we’ll carry with us hen we leave your classrooms–even if that cumulative final doesn’t always reflect that. To the staff, what you do for this place does not go unnoticed; we know Stetson would be unrecognizable without the TLC you all pour into this place. And to everyone still reading this letter, happy holidays and I’ll catch you in the new year.
