MACON, Ga. – Stetson’s Alexandria Buelow made it a perfect three-for-three for her career as she earned her third-straight Atlantic Sun Conference Women’s Golfer of the Year Honor. Buelow is the only student-athlete in A-Sun women’s golf history to win three Golfer of the Year awards.

Buelow also landed unanimous first team all-conference honors alongside ETSU’s Gabriella Wahl – the A-Sun Freshman of the Year. Wahl also won the 2012 A-Sun Championship individual medalist honors after defeating Mercer’s Lacey Fears in a two-hole playoff. A sophomore, Fears garnered first-team distinction for the first time in her career.

“To win Golfer of the Year three years in a row requires a player to be steady, and that is a word I would use to describe Alex,” Stetson women’s golf coach Floyd Kerr said. “She is a very steady player, always right around 71, 72 or 73. The fact that in three years she has never had a round in the 80s is, to me, remarkable.”

Buelow currently stands tenth in the nation, according to GolfStat, in scoring average this year and is third in the east region.

“Her stroke average has improved every year which, at her level of play, is very difficult to do,” Kerr said. “She improved by a full stroke this year. She has made great progress as a player and continues to do so. The big thing is that she is a coaches dream. She is a great player, a great kid and a great teammate.”

Kennesaw State’s Ket Preamcheun and ETSU’s Sian Evans completed the first team as the Owls and Buccaneers each placed three student-athletes on the all-conference teams. For Preamchuen, it marks her third-straight year with first-team honors joining Buelow as two of 21 A-Sun student-athletes to receive three all-conference honors. Buelow’s senior teammate Lauren Cate also achieved the feat by earning second-team recognition in 2012.

“In the all-time annals of Stetson golf, I think that Lauren Cate (76.0) will likely rank third behind Alex (73.0) and Danielle Jackson (75.83) in terms of career scoring average,” Kerr said. “She is as fierce a competitor as you will ever find. She just doesn’t back off. Over her career she was league Freshman of the Year and a three-time All-Conference performer, which is pretty good in my book.”

Two Owls landed second-team honors as freshmen Léa Charpier and Ines Lescudier were joined by Jacksonville freshman Natalie Schmett. ETSU’s Mayte Vizcarrondo accompanied Mercer’s Mary Alice Murphy to complete the second team.

Wahl and Schmett led the All-Freshmen Team which included three Kennesaw State first-year players; Charpier, Lescudier and Kaew Preamchuen. Mercer’s Sarah Louie Brown capped the six-person all-freshmen team.

Kennesaw State Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead received the A-Sun Coach of the Year honors after guiding the Owls to a four-stroke victory at the 2012 Atlantic Sun Women’s Golf Championship. It marked the first team title in Owls’ program history and the first Coach of the Year honors for the fifth-year head coach.
