Stetson Women’s Basketball completes coaching staff

Stetson University women’s basketball Coach Lynn Bria has completed her coaching staff for the 2012-13 season with the addition of Jenna Burkett.

“She is young, but already has a lot of experience,” Bria said. She is very organized and detail oriented, but is also an outstanding coach.”

Burkett spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach for Lenoir-Rhyne University’s women’s basketball team. She also completed requirements for her Master’s degree in Business Administration.

While at Lenior-Rhyne, Burkett was the position coach of first team All-South Atlantic Conference and All-American candidate Cameron Sealey for both the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons. She was also a staff member of 2010-11 All-South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year Todd Starkey.

Before Lenoir-Rhyne, Burkett spent two years as the director of women’s basketball operations at her alma mater. Burkett was a four-year letter winner at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh, PA, from 2003-07.

She left as the all-time leader in three-pointers made (208) and three-pointers attempted (607), and her 114 games played is second best in program history. She was also a starter on the Colonial team that won a school-record 24 games, captured the Northeast Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Division I Tournament.

“She had a really good playing career at Robert Morris for Sal Buscaglia, who has been there for a long time,” Bria said. “She comes from a great background, has a great work ethic, and will be really good for us on the floor.”

A native of Altoona, Pa., Burkett graduated from Robert Morris in 2007 with an undergraduate degree in marketing.

Burkett is also camp counselor and administrative assistant for several Five-Star basketball camps.

“She is a guard coach, which will be a great fit for us,” Bria said. “She is just a good young, up-and-coming, coach.”
