Stetson University music major Lohengrin Velasquez will perform her senior cello recital on Sunday, March 30, at 7:30 p.m., in Lee Chapel, inside Elizabeth Hall, 421 N. Woodland Blvd, on Stetson’s DeLand campus.

Lohengrin will perform two pieces with Andrew Moenning, piano, including a noted sonata for piano and cello by Ludwig van Beethoven, and a Villa Lobos piece with flautist Dylan Steven King, for cello and flute that was inspired by the folk music of the composer’s native country Brazil. Lohengrin’s applied teacher is Stetson’s cello professor and director of the chamber music program, David Bjella.

Born in Venezuela and raised in Miami, Velasquez has enjoyed a long standing relationship with music and the arts. Having been a part of several South Florida orchestras and music organizations as an accomplished cellist, Lohengrin has turned to the administrative side of music which is her true passion. Soon to complete a degree in music with an outside field in marketing, Lohengrin is pursuing a career in arts administration.

During her time at Stetson, Velasquez has worked administratively with organizations such as the Florida Symphony Youth Orchestra, the Athens Theatre, and the Philadelphia International Music Festival. Most recently, she was chosen last semester to intern with the creative director for the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York.

Lohengrin is the recipient of several scholarships, including the Inez and Geraldine Gee Scholarship, the Duckwitz Talent Scholarship, the Roepke Endowed Music Scholarship and the Barron String Orchestral Scholarship.

In addition to her musical accomplishments, Velasquez has served as cello instructor with Stetson’s Community School of Music and teaches private cello lessons. Currently, Lohengrin works in the Academic Success Center at Stetson.
