Stetson University has selected Bruce Chong as its new vice president for marketing and communications, effective Nov. 4. He will lead the university’s marketing, communications and public relations efforts. Chong takes the position previously held by Gregory Carroll who retired last month after six years at Stetson.

Chong comes to Stetson from South University where he was associate chancellor for marketing. While there, he helped build the university’s campus enrollment and extend its geographic reach from the South to 11 campus locations and two learning sites. Chong was responsible for leading the brand development, creative production and traditional and digital marketing at South University.

“We were so pleased when we met Bruce and got to know him,” said Stetson University President Wendy B. Libby, Ph.D. “He has just the right combination of skills and experience to bring to bear on the important internal and external marketing and communications efforts at Stetson University. We were also impressed with his focus on the strategic mission of Stetson and how we could use the stories of our alumni, faculty, staff and students to illustrate the progress we are making.”

“I was impressed with Stetson University’s reputation and national recognition, but decided this was the right place after meeting President Libby and members of the staff and faculty,” said Chong. “Everyone has such a high level of commitment to students and the university mission that I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else.”

Prior to joining South University, Chong served for nine years as dean of communications for the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) where he was responsible for building the reputation of the college through earned media including communications and public relations and digital marketing.

Before moving into communications and marketing in higher education, he was an executive producer at CNN and held several roles during his time there including producer/writer at CNN Headline News and general manager of CNN Radio Network.

Chong earned his degree in journalism and political science/international relations from San Diego State University.
